PERSONAL NEWS #196

Sunday, May 1st, I distributed the remaining Brooklyn Peace Fair postcards in mailboxes and such on many streets in my hood.

Tuesday, May 3rd, after my foot doctor appt, I headed down to Cobble Hill to pick up more Peace Fair postcards for distribution in my neighborhood. After chatting with Charlotte I purchased some goodies at Nutbox on Smith Street, and had a delicious Asian Vegan meal at “Wild Ginger”, also on Smith Street. Got home in time to jump on the Peace Alliance monthly conference call and the guest speaker was Capt Paul Chappell. I was so impressed with what he had to say, that I purchased one of his books.

Wednesday, May 4th, after my chiropractor appt and a quick dinner, I walked around my neighborhood for 2 hours distributing Peace Fair postcards at people’s home addresses. Mostly through mail slots, mailboxes, vestibule entries, etc.

Thursday, May 5th, I attended the monthly meetup for TGTSNBN, and had lots of fun with other members and friends.

On Friday, May 6th, I took ½ a vacation day to join other BFP Peace Fair committee members in bringing stuff to BCSC for the PF on the 7th. Afterwards I went to “Wild Ginger” for a delicious dinner.

On Saturday, May 7th, the 7th Annual Brooklyn Peace Fair took place at Brooklyn College Student Center. The keynote speaker was Juan Gonzalez from the Daily News and Democracy Now. On average, I’d say about 400+ attended the fair, and it was “standing room” only for the keynote speaker. I ran into Linda G at the fair, as we haven’t spoken since December 2009. She was, as always, abrupt and very negative, in her conversation. Whereas I handled the encounter with charm, humor and much diplomacy.

Sunday, May 8th, I joined CodePink and Raging Grannies for the annual Mother’s Day Peace March in Manhattan. The weather was lovely and one of the few perfect Spring days this year.

May 9th & 10th, I’ve been working on the Peace Fair registration cards at home on my laptop. I have been inputting the info onto an Excel spreadsheet for BFP.

Wednesday, May 11th, I volunteered with City Harvest today at the Union Square farmers market.

Thursday, May 12th, I joined my fellow Peace Fair committee members for a productive meeting, and to celebrate the success of another Peace Fair.

Friday evening, May 13th, I volunteered with City Harvest at farmers market in Union Square. Afterwards, I met up with Cas [FB acquaintance] for dinner at Big Daddy’s diner.

Saturday, May 14th, after a terrific massage therapy at chiropractor office, I got my things together and headed into the city. I joined other TGTSNBN members near the Central Park boathouse for a picnic and cosplay. Photo of me with other Hufflepuffs :-)

Tuesday, May 17th, I had therapy at my foot doctor’s office, and later that evening a good cardio workout at the gym.

Wednesday, May 18th, I had an appt with my councilmember’s legislative office at lunch time to discuss HR808, Reso 14, peace activism and the recent Brooklyn Peace Fair.

Thursday, May 19th, I volunteered at the WCW national office to assist with database entry, and creating a survey.

Friday, May 20th, I upgraded my Virgin Mobile cell phone plan to include texting at Radio Shack. WooHoo! Afterwards, I headed off to Friday Nite Knits for an enjoyable evening.

Saturday, May 21st, after my cleaning lady finished with the apt, I took care of assorted errands before driving into Manhattan with my friend Nancie. We went to Mt Sinai hospital to visit our friend Eileen. Naturally, at 6pm, the rapture was a bust J

Sunday afternoon, May 22nd, I headed up to Riverside Park in Manhattan to join TGTSNBN for some Quidditch. I was ref and score keeper for the two games I observed. Sadly, wasn’t able to stay for all of it, as I had another commitment down around 34th Street. I joined the “Friends of Tolkien” for an enjoyable meetup. Some of us had a late brunch or an early dinner, plus we engaged in lively discussions on assorted topics. [Photo: Pauline, Laura and Beth wearing wreaths by Ann.]

Monday, May 23rd, I finished reading “A Clash of Kings”, which is book two of the “Ice & Fire” series. I also picked up the next book [#3] in the series called “A Storm of Swords”. This series, starting with “A Game of Thrones”, is by George R.R. Martin, and are excellent.

Wednesday, May 25th, after my chiropractor appt and a quick meal at a local health food place, I changed into gym clothes for a power walk at the local track.

Thursday, May 26th, I did volunteer work at WCW national office, and assisted with data entry.

Saturday through Tuesday, May 28th – 31st, I spent a nice, relaxing time with the family in upstate NY for the Memorial Day weekend. I did check out some tag sales, hair salon appt, shopping, biking, painting, reading, cooking, cable tv, yard work, etc.
