PRESS RELEASE ON FEB 21 FROM CONGRESSMAN KUCINICH - US Should Not Export Security; Port Deal Contradicts Administration’s Fear Rhetoric
Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich, Ranking Member of the House Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations, issued the following statement today on the deal to export America’s port security. -- “This Administration has zero credibility when it comes to securing our nation’s ports. While they have funneled billions of dollars into securing air travel, this Administration has under funded port security and failed to provide adequate technology and personnel to protect one of our nation’s most vulnerable targets. The United States government should not be in the business of exporting our nation’s security needs. This deal contradicts the rhetoric that this Administration has used, and misused, for years to strike fear in Americans. This Administration has used the threat of terror, in rhetoric and policy, for years to push a radical ideology. Our nation is only as secure as our weakest point. This Administration in the almost five years since 9/11 has virtually abandon and ignored securing our ports, making our nation more vulnerable. Can this Administration really tell the American people no United States company is capable of providing this service for our nation’s ports? Congress must hold hearings on this misguided policy.”

As the results of the recent Palestinian elections are implemented, it's important to understand how the transition process works and also how important to it are actions by Israel and the United States.
