Senator Robert C. Byrd has spent 47 years serving the people of West Virginia and the nation with great skill and dedication, and he has often been a profile in courage. In recent years, for example, he has stood eloquently by his values and opposed the Iraq War, at a time when many others were silent. Even now, as Republican smear groups circle his re-election campaign and attack his principled position, he refuses to be silent.
