PERSONAL NEWS #120
On Tuesday evening, March 13th, NYDoP had our first “core team” conference call since January 2006. Many new members to the “core team” were inquiring about it, as some live outside of the NYC parameters and cannot attend the monthly meetings in person. If National DoP can do informative, interesting monthly calls, so can the NY chapter. Oh yeah, we so rock the house!

Thursday evening, March 15th, we held separate, back-to-back meetings for NYDoP board and core team at Adriana’s office [ie: conference room] in the Empire State Building. Both meetings went well and we covered many topics … such as … materials cost, monthly contributions, anti-war events, bylaws, list serve, September peace building, strategy day and student peace groups. I utilized the wonderful mini tape recorder and took notes. After the meeting, while doing a wee bit of shopping in Duane Reade, it dawned on me I left my checkbook/bills in desk drawer at work. Geez! Duh! So had to trek all the way back to the office, grab my things, and then head home. I arrived in time to watch last 25 minutes of CSI Las Vegas.

Early Friday evening, March 16th, I attended the Granny Peace Brigades “endless war memorial & vigil” (names of dead American soldiers, journalist & Iraqi were read). The readings were so moving. It’s important to pay homage to these individuals. Only about 25 people [including Dawn, Bill & Linda] were there and we braved the cold snowstorm. The closing ceremony consisted of a woman singing an Iraqi lullaby, lady read a soldier’s letter, and young man playing of taps; jazz singer song of peace and a Moslem chanted the “call to prayer”. Reuters was there as well to video tape and interview some of the Granny Peace Brigade. Afterwards, the four of us briefly went to a nearby Starbucks for something warm to drink and discussion of ceremony. Then Linda headed off to an appointment, while I joined Dawn and Bill for dinner at Appleby’s on 42nd Street. During dinner we had enjoyable, interesting conversation on diverse topics, as well as some good laughs. Appleby’s food is okay … I had fish & chips … where as Dawn and Bill had a lot of French fries as they are vegans. At that point, I think all we cared about was a warm, dry place with hot food.

Late Sunday morning, March 18th, I took the Long Island railroad out near Great Neck [NY], where Joe picked me up at the station. We were joining Liz and Adriana for the “Expect the Miraculous” event. This was held at Leonard’s La Dolce Vita; which looks like it mostly caters to weddings, special events and social functions. “Expect the Miraculous” was sponsored and hosted by Enchantment Industries, which is run by Elly and Sarah, who are new members of NYDoP. Upon arrival Joe and I set up our NYDoP table; which was sandwiched between “The Money Profit” and “Fire Your Diet”. The gents [ie: John Alexandrov & Joe Kasper] at these tables were also guest speakers, along with our dear Liz, who gave a wonderful 10 minute presentation on Dept of Peace. Along with a nice lunch and champagne; there were dance performances by MMestre Ombrinho and capoeira Angola Quintal. Plus musical performances by Katia Zallas and Reuben Drummond. The latter got everyone up and grooving to the music. Overall an enjoyable afternoon and great talking to folk about the Dept of Peace campaign.

Monday, March 19th, after work I joined other New Yorkers for a candlelight vigil in Union Square. This was to mark the 4th anniversary of the horrible invasion and occupation of Iraq by the Bush Regime. We want our troop’s home now and universal peace. While down there I ran into Harry, whom I know from Rob Jereski’s congressional campaign in 2004. It was great seeing him and catching up on news.

New Targets for Kucinich: 9/11 & Handguns

The press release also asserted that two of Kucinich's longtime pet causes -- establishing a universal health care system and creating a cabinet-level Department of Peace and Nonviolence -- "directly relate to the events of Blacksburg."

Kucinich to Launch Cheney Impeachment Push on April 25

[Duchess Note: Many thanks to Linda Z from TX in sharing these great articles on Congressman Kucinich. Bravo DJK! Yah know, we haven't had an "red or orange alert" from the Bush Regime for quite some time. There were so many in 2004 ... prior to the November election. It was ALL done to scare Americans into voting for W and not Kerry. And there were folk who fell for it. Fools! Will Cheney do something similiar to that to get out of being impeached? I'm sure Cheney and Rove will think of something. . . . .]
