Rudy Gets Earful At Stop Here – Some FDNY Survivors Rally AGAINST Him
David Saltonstall, Daily News

Presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani is keeping a low profile in his hometown these days, perhaps with reason - protesters who lost loved ones on 9/11 are picketing him whenever they learn his whereabouts in the city. The small but determined band oflocal parents and widows greeted Giuliani yesterday as he attended theNew York Republican County Committee Lincoln Day Dinner at Cipriani, a posh midtown eatery.

The former mayor slid in the back door, avoiding the 20 or so protesters with signs that read, "Rudy for President? Not in my son's name!" and "America's Night Mayor." The group, made up mostly of FDNY veterans, families and union leaders, says its goal is to educate Americans about what it sees as the tragic mistakes Giuliani made on 9/11 and the mythical image that has grown up around him from that day. "The bitter truth," said Sally Regenhard, whose firefighter son, Christian, died on 9/11, "is that Rudy Giuliani is building a path to the White House over the bodies of 343 firefighters."

The protesters offer a litany of criticisms, chief among them Giuliani's failure to provide firefighters with adequate radios on 9/11, even after years of complaints. Many believe the inability of the firefighters to communicate effectively prevented scores from being warned about the impending building collapses. "He didn't properly outfit our men," said active FDNY Battalion Chief Jim Riches, who lost his firefighter son, Jimmy, on 9/11. "I'll go to whatever event he has if I know I can get that word out."

Last night was the first time Giuliani had attended a widely publicized event in the city since a March 16 fund-raiser in midtown, where the same protesters also greeted him. Giuliani aides responded to questions about the protesters' criticisms by offering up a testimonial from another firefighter. Retired FDNY Capt. John Vigiano praised Giuliani for making sure rescuers' families were taken care of. "Rudy Giuliani was a great mayor for New York City, before Sept. 11, on Sept. 11 and afterwards," said Vigiano, who lost two sons on 9/11. "Because of his efforts on behalf of my family, I never have to worry about my daughters-in-law or my five grandchildren." dsaltonstall@nydailynews.com

[Duchess Note – Bravo to those who are protesting against this thug. The truth needs to be told, not only about 9/11, but about Rudy G career in NYC. He's using and abusing 9/11 ... just like the Bush Regime. The abuse has to stop!]
