Weekend of April 2nd & 3rd ... Low key weekend of errands, clean apt, shopping, cleaners, manicure, gym, obtaining sponsors for Peace Fair, catch up on computer items, and strolling around the hood photog Kodak moments.
Tuesday, April 5th, I joined Debbie and Linda in attending the “Harry Potter – The Exhibition” at Discovery Times Square at lunch time. Had a great time hanging with them and the exhibition was terrific, and even purchased a few items in the gift shop. That evening I volunteered at the WCW national office and assisted with data entry on their website.
Wednesday, April 6th, had a doctor’s appt to learn if I am allergic to dairy, and found out I am lactose intolerant.
Thursday, April 7th, I attended TGTSNBN meetup at Stone Creek, and it was improv night with general theme’s taken from HP books 3 and 4.
Friday, April 8th, I rented, and watched, the “Wild Wild West” TV series DVD.
Saturday, April 9th, I participated with other members of “Brooklyn for Peace” at the “Stop the Wars” rally in Union Square from 12-2pm. From there hundreds and hundreds of protesters marched down Broadway to Foley Square near City Hall. I enjoyed sharing little moments and protesting with BforP on April 9th. Back when I first got "into" activism in early 2003, I did many things by myself. I didn't know anyone or specific groups. By 2004 things had changed and since then even more so. It’s been a continuous learning curve for me and I'm glad this "path" chose me. I thought the turnout on the 9th was pretty decent, and wished people along the March route left their fears behind them and joined us. It’s such a liberating feeling! Despite the NYC cops trying to pen us in, and at times getting about "in your face", the march spanned many city blocks down Broadway. It was a terrific sight to see. Again, I wish more people joined us to express how they really feel about the wars, job loss, healthcare, education, etc. Afterwards I did some shopping on upper Eastside of Manhattan, and then home to finish watching the DVD rental.
Monday, April 11th, I worked overtime to catch up on important projects.
Tuesday, April 12th, I had an appt for therapy with my foot doctor. Afterwards, I took the subway uptown to the World Can’t Wait national office to volunteer and assist with data entry.
Wednesday evening, April 13th, I joined in on a special Peace Alliance conference call with guest speaker Congressman Kucinich. Discussion was on the re-introduction of HR808 and working towards a national kick off campaign for the Dept of Peace.
Thursday, April 14th, I joined my fellow Peace Fair committee members for a productive meeting.
Friday, April 15th, I had to work overtime to catch up on important projects.
Saturday, April 16th, after business with my bank and a chiropractor visit; I headed into the city to join other TGTSNBN members in viewing the DVD release of “Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows – Pt1”. Afterwards I headed uptown to Best Buy and purchased the DVD, which I watched later in the evening.
Sunday, April 17th, I had a one-on-one discussion with Stitch, who is manager of Gothic Renaissance, about sponsorship with TGTSNBN. Afterwards I ran into Wendy, who works in both the Halloween shop next door and also GR. I haven’t seen or talked with her since 2002, and we jumped into conversation as if it’d only been last week.
Monday/Tuesday, April 18th & 19th, I had to work OT at the office due to tax season.
Thursday, April 21st, I attended the “NY Friends of Tolkien” meetup, and it was quite enjoyable.
Weekend of April 22nd to 24th I spent with family in upstate NY for Easter. Had a nice, relaxing time and even helped Dad with some yard work.
April 25th and 26th, worked overtime at the office.
Wednesday, April 27th, I participated in the NYdoPeace and CCR team conference call regarding Resolution 14.
Thursday, April 28th, I joined my fellow Peace Fair committee members for a productive meeting. This was our last "official" meeting before the Peace Fair on May 7th.
Friday evening, April 29th, after work, I walked around the neighborhood asking assorted businesses to display the pretty Brooklyn Peace Fair poster. I also distributed the postcards on several blocks.
Saturday afternoon, April 30th, I was given "one on one" cooking lessons by Mukti, who is a fellow member of the BFP Peace Fair committee at her home. She was teaching me how to prepare some tasty vegan Indian dishes.
Tuesday, March 1st, I had an appt with my lung specialist, and I’m improving though will always need to utilize the inhalers at least once a day. Also need to schedule an appt with my internal medicine doctor about allergy consultation, plus a new CTSCAN.
Thursday evening, March 3rd, I attended TGTSNBN monthly meetup at Stone Creek tavern for discussion on books 1 and 2 of the HP series.
Tuesday, March 8th, I finally got to my foot doctor for therapy, after having to reschedule due to being in the hospital in January. My doctor also mentioned that I should wear special “pads” in my shoes to assist the Metatarsal bones. Especially in regards to my left foot ... sigh ... always troubles with my left foot.
Wednesday, March 9th, I participated in the NydoPeace CCR team conference call.
Thursday, March 10th, I joined my fellow Peace Fair committee companions for a productive meeting.
March 11 to 13, I headed upstate NY for a nice, relaxing weekend visit with the parents.
Thursday, March 17th, I volunteered at WCW national office to assist with prep work for the upcoming Left Forum, plus learn how to access and edit their online calendar.
Friday, March 18th, I had a chiropractor appt and felt good to get the adjustments.
On Saturday evening, March 19th, I headed out to the local park in my hood to watch the rising of the “super moon”, plus attempt to take photos of it.
Sunday, March 20th, I volunteered with WCW in the exhibit and tabling area at the Left Forum, which was held at Pace University.
Thursday, March 24th, I attended a presentation and book signing of Brad Klausen’s latest in rock concert posters at Bluestockings. Brad was the graphic designer for one of my fav rock bands, Pearl Jam, for 10 years. In 2007 he started “Artillery Design” and creating images for rock concert posters for assorted groups. His wonderfully visual and terrific book ... “From a Basement in Seattle” was on sale.
Friday, March 25th, I joined other members of TGTSNBN at Paprika restaurant for Michelle and Alex’s one year anniversary dinner party.
Saturday, March 26th, was a busy day with salon appt at BLOW in Manhattan, and then taking MetroNorth to Mt Kisco for the Fox Lane class reunion. Reunion was held for graduating classes of 1975, 1976 and my class of 1977. It was an awesome party and beautifully organized by Liz and Lea. It was great seeing many of my classmates and catching up on news. I also shared a hotel room with my friend Katherine.
On Sunday, March 27th, another busy day with brunch at Mt Kisco diner with my friend Katherine. Afterwards, we checked out the FL high school and middle school grounds, and then I jump on MetroNorth to Manhattan for the "Tolkien Reading Day" event at Simple Studios. I had invited TJ as my guest, and he gave one of the better, lively readings. A group of us went out to dinner afterwards at an excellent restaurant suggested by Carole.
Wednesday, March 30th, I participated in the NydoPeace and CCR team conference call regarding Resolution 14 and new website. Earlier same day I had a terrific phone call discussion with Kevin Carroll, who is legislative director at Councilmember Levin’s office. This is my district councilmember and our conversation was mostly on Resolution 14, plus peace groups in Brooklyn area.
Thursday, March 31st, I joined my fellow Peace Fair committee members for a productive meeting. Earlier in the day I learned that my councilmember [Levin] became a co-sponsor of Resolution 14. WooHoo!

Message from Truthout and William Rivers Pitt
Rachel Maddow described President Obama's speech on Wednesday as a "defining moment" for his administration, and she was absolutely correct. It was an excellent speech in the main, filled with the kind of lofty rhetoric we have become accustomed to since Mr. Obama first burst onto the political scene in 2004. In it, he proposed taxing the rich, cutting the defense budget and decreasing the cost of health care. He defended Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. For many in the progressive community, it was a reminder of the man who fired the imaginations of so many during his presidential campaign.
Therein lies the problem: it was all just words. Again. There have been many such "defining moments" during this administration, most of which involved retreat, surrender and failure after festooning the walls with words. We heard great talk about including the public option in the health care bill - until Mr. Obama retreated, leaving many to wonder if he ever meant to include it at all. We heard great talk about closing Guantanamo, until he retreated. We heard great talk about repealing the Bush tax cuts for rich people, until that fell by the wayside as well. The very fact that we are still talking about those damnable tax breaks is evidence enough of how far those words go, and that is not very far at all, so far.
And then there were the other words in Wednesday's speech: the ones that tipped a wink to the Bowles-Simpson proposal to eviscerate the social contract which has sustained this nation for generations. There were the words, "Any serious plan to tackle our deficit will require us to put everything on the table." If that is true, Mr. President, then a plan to provide Medicare for all must also be on the table … but no, that's not "reasonable" or "responsible." The debate over the future of this country has been skewed so far to the right that centrism appears radical, even as the worst elements in our nation win the day time and again.
Words are no longer enough, even pretty ones. Action is required, not only by our elected officials, but by you and me. Mr. Obama spoke of "shared sacrifices" on Wednesday, but it is time for shared actions as well. It is this endeavor to which Truthout has committed, and all of us here bear a responsibility to each other, to you our readers, to the country and to the world entire. When the real radicals of the right are allowed to frame the debate - allowed to disseminate outright lies with no answer or recourse - it is to this diseased estate we are delivered.
I ask you today to take action, to help us bring this fight to them every day, so that we can move beyond the siren song of empty promises and bring the genuine change we so desperately need. Truthout must raise $42,000 more during this fundraising drive in order to continue doing this work. Please take action with us today by making a contribution.

QUOTE OF THE DAY … “When you don’t know what to say, be silent, and the wisdom will come. Today, be patient, and trust the words that bubble up to the surface. And know it takes courage to say nothing.” – Yehuda Berg

MORE QUOTES … “You don’t lack anything. Your 1% illusionary reality may not reflect that truth, but beyond that in the true reality, you have everything you could ever want. That reality is not in some far away place, or behind the pearly gates. It’s here now. Today, let this teaching come to life, and never surrender to despair.” – Yehuda Berg

Ten billion dollars has been taken from Brooklyn taxpayers to pay for the destructive wars in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001
U.S. wars have created a trail of death and destruction overseas. They are also wreaking havoc on our economy. For just the $1 billion Brooklynites will pay for war in 2011, we could have had 11,397 school teachers, or provided 325,900 Brooklyn households with renewable solar electricity. What the U.S. will spend this year on Afghanistan alone would cover ALL the state budget deficits combined, with money left over for other needs.
Instead, thousands of teachers are threatened with layoff, hospitals, day care and senior centers are shut down, and mass transit is cut back. Each soldier tragically sent to Afghanistan for a year, and every cruise missile fired in Libya, is another million taken from human needs in the U.S.
Protest to stop the wars and move the money from warfare to schools, jobs, housing and healthcare NOW.
P.S. Save the date for the Brooklyn Peace Fair 2011, on Saturday, May 7th [12-5pm] at Brooklyn College Student Center, with host Juan Gonzalez and many workshops, events, video, music and discussions.

Thank you and be peace.

Move your body like a hairy troll
Learning to rock and roll
Spin around like a crazy 'elf
A' Dancin' by himself
I boogie down like a unicorn
No stoppin' till the break of dawn
Put your hands up in the air
Like a dog, or just don't care
(Chorus)
Can you dance the hippogriff?
Ma ma ma, ma ma ma, ma ma ma
Flyin' off from a cliff
Ma ma ma, ma ma ma, ma ma ma
Swooping down, to the ground
Ma ma ma, ma ma ma, ma ma ma
Wheel around and around and around and around
Ma ma ma, ma ma ma, ma ma ma
Move around like a scary ghost
Spooking himself the most
Shake your booty like a boggart in pain
Again and again and again
Get it on like an angry specter
Who's definitely out to get ya'
Stamp your feet like a leprechaun
Gettin' it on, gettin' it on
Chorus
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Ooh, come on
Mmm, you gotta move it
Like a groovy creature,
Creature of the night
Yeah, that's right
Ah, a creature of the night
Well, do ya' feel alright?
Do ya' feel alright?
Ow! Yeah!
Can you dance like a hippogriff?
Ma ma ma, ma ma ma, ma ma ma
Flyin' off from a cliff
Ma ma ma, ma ma ma, ma ma ma
Swooping down, to the ground
Ma ma ma, ma ma ma, ma ma ma
Wheel around and around and around and around
Come on, ah, come on, yeah!
Can dance you like a hippogriff? Yeah!
