QUOTE OF THE DAY ... Every day we do things, we are things that have to do with peace. If we are aware of our life, our way of looking at things, we will know how to make peace right in the moment we are alive. Thich Nhat Hahn

MESSAGE FROM PEACE ACTION NY AND PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRATS OF AMERICA
The Iraq war benefits only those who stand to make financial gain from weapons production and imperialism in the Middle East. Military families and ordinary citizens suffer the most as the casualties and the deficit grow. PANY and PDA have developed a workable five point plan that the government should use to get us out.

Five Points for Successfully Exiting Iraq

1] Leave no permanent bases in Iraq
2] Plan to withdraw in troops in months, not years
3] Peacefully reconstruct Iraq with the supervision of the United Nations
4] Appoint a diplomat to facilitate an independent peace process in Iraq
5] Diplomatically assist in a cooperative political settlement in the new Iraqi government

MESSAGE FROM BUGSNEWS -- Pearl Jam Gets OK For Sao Paulo Show

After weeks of doubts, Sao Paulo's mayor has agreed to allow Pearl Jam to perform in the Brazilian city's biggest stadium. More than 40,000 fans are expected for the Dec. 2-3 shows at the Pacaembu stadium, which will mark the Seattle-based band's debut in Brazil. Mayor Jose Serra had suspended shows in Pacaembu after complaints from residents of the posh neighborhood around the stadium about noise and mess. For the concerts to go ahead, Serra set a list of demands. The show must finish at 9:45 p.m. sharp and rehearsals must take place during the day for just 30 minutes. A special police operation will be mounted to maintain security and the organizers must clean up the stadium and the surrounding streets. Pearl Jam's Latin American tour starts on Nov. 22 in Santiago, Chile. The shows will be the first open-floor performances the group has undertaken since nine fans were killed in a crowd surge during its June 2000 set at Denmark's Roskilde Festival. Pearl Jam is presently finishing up work on its eighth studio album, which is expected early next year via J Records.

THE LIMITS OF BUSH'S MIND
Gordon Livingston, The Baltimore Sun
In his recent rehearsed television conversation with 11 soldiers in Iraq, he said, "So long as I'm the president, we're never going to back down, we're never going ... to accept anything less than total victory." Twice he told them that the American people were behind them: "You've got tremendous support here at home." In an Associated Press poll taken in September, over half the public now says the Iraq war was a mistake. What's happening? Is the man so insulated from the reality of events that he has come to believe his administration's propaganda? Or is there a more ominous and pervasive problem that calls into question something other than political ideology, that is influenced by a world view marked by an inability to reason logically and learn from experience?
