Pearl Jam Bassist, Jeff Ament [photo below], Celebrated His 41st Birthday Near Summit Of Mt Kilimanjaro. Jeff Is One Of The SAVE THE CHILDREN Climbers On This Expedition. Read On Below...............

March 10: From ancient rock to ancient ice, our climbers made their way today from the Lava Tower on Mt. Kilimanjaro’s western slope some 1,500 feet higher to a camp overlooking Arrow Glacier. They stopped for the night within sight of what promises to be the toughest part of the trek Thursday – a day-long scramble up and over boulders and loose debris that puts them in a crater near the summit, and within striking distance of the 19,340-foot peak early Friday morning. “There are a few butterflies up here tonight,” said Wade Beatty. “We can see the rim of the crater and while it doesn’t look very far from here, it’s going to take us eight hours to get there.” But the group also had reason to celebrate today, as it was climber and Pearl Jam band member Jeff Ament’s birthday. The expedition’s Tanzanian cook, Joseph, baked a cake for dessert and everyone in camp – climbers and porters – sang “Happy Birthday.”
