"I think it is important for us to hear these stories. It is important for us to teach these young people what it was like before Roe v. Wade, so that we will never again go back to those days ... We have to let young women and men know the tragedy of illegal abortion." - Dr. Mildred Hanson

Additional Information:

"The Voices of Choice: Physicians Who Provided Abortions Before Roe v. Wade" documents the experiences of physicians involved in abortion care and the pro-choice movement prior to the landmark Supreme Court decision in 1973. "The Voices of Choice" preserves the legacy of older physicians who witnessed the effects of illegal abortion. Their testimony reminds us of the tragic impacts of illegal abortion so that we may better understand the present and, more importantly, prepare for the future.

"When people ask me if I was ever worried about the abortions I had done; I say no. The ones that haunt me are the ones that I didn't do." - Dr. Jane Hodgson
